Plumbing & Pipefitting
Overview
The plumbing program is designed to train students to have the necessary skills needed for gainful employment as an apprentice in the plumbing/HVAC trade. Theory, paired with practical “hands on” training is geared towards real world, on-the- job scenarios. Skills learned include: pipe threading/layout; copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX water supply; PVC, cast iron waste; basic fixture repair & installation; blue print reading; basic carpentry & electrical; tile setting; and basic domestic oil burner/heating system. The philosophy of the West Side CTC plumbing program is: “The more you know, the more employable you become.”
Certifications
There is a tech prep option to receive college credits for this course if continuing trade education at the post secondary level.
Career Outlook
Plumbers & Pipefitters are designated as a high priority occupation in Pennsylvania. This designation means that the occupation is in demand by employers, has high skill requirements, and offers a family-sustaining wage. Occupations available include:
- Plumber- new construction & remodel
- Pipefitter-commercial & industrial
- Fire suppression Systems Installer
- HVAC Repair/Installation Apprentice
