School to Start on Monday, August 31, 2009

West Side CTC will begin classes with the largest enrollment in ten years. The increase is due in part to the realization that Career and Technical Education gives students a great head start in preparing for 21st Century Careers. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, "Enrolling in career and technical education (CTE) while in high school is a great way to learn and explore a career and gain employability before entering college, a post-secondary technical school or the workforce". This, combined with the ability to earn college credits, earn while you learn, and gain valuable industry certifications while in high school, makes West Side CTC a great choice for students entering 9th through 12th grades. In addition to the increased enrollment, the 2009-2010 school year will also bring changes to two of our most popular programs at West Side CTC. We have doubled the capacity of our Culinary Arts program with a state of the art kitchen expansion that will allow the popular program to branch out in even more exciting directions. West Side CTC has also expanded the Health Related Technologies program. The health care field is very valuable to our local economy, and West Side CTC is committed to providing even more qualified graduates, with the addition of a second instructor that allowed us to also double the capacity in that program.
