West Side Becomes the First CTC in the State to Form a PTSA

West Side Becomes the First CTC in the State to Form a Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) The parent/teacher organization at West Side CTC recently hosted a visit from Michele Morrow, President of Pennsylvania PTA and Kris Newbern, Region 15 Vice President. The ladies spoke about the benefits of becoming part of the Pennsylvania and National PTA. After listening to the presentation, the organization decided that they would become Pennsylvania's first Career and Technology Center to form a Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) charter. This move allows student leaders to join the group and work with parents and teachers in making decisions that will affect activities at their school. They will also contribute to suggestions that will be presented to administration on behalf of the group. The parents and teachers felt that this was especially important for a CTC, as we are preparing students for 21st Century careers. As members of the PTSA, the students learn valuable lessons about how to formulate and present ideas to a group. In addition, they are also exposed to how the decision making process works in a group setting. These traits will be a valuable asset in preparing students to become active leaders in their communities. The West Side CTC PTSA would like to invite all parents, teachers and students to join. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in the school library.
